Bunkering is the supply of fuel to ships. It is one of the most important port services because a vessel’s fuel choice affects voyage planning, cost, emissions, safety and schedule reliability. Ports and anchorages around the Panama Canal are important bunkering points for vessels transiting between the Atlantic and Pacific. Fuel transition changes bunkering, not its importance
Ships will still need energy, but the supply chain will become more complex. Different fuels have different densities, hazards, temperature requirements and transfer methods.
