MedPort Tanger, Capacity Rises to 5.2 million TEU

Tanger Med (in Arabic: طنجة المتوسط ) is a Moroccan industrial port complex, located 45 km northeast of Tangier and opposite of Tarifa, Spain (15 km north) on the Strait of Gibraltar, with handling capacities of 9 million containers, one of the largest industrial ports in the world, and the largest port in Africa and the Mediterranean Sea. 7 million passengers, 700,000 trucks and the export of 1 million vehicles. Tanger Med also consists of an industrial platform for 1100  companies, representing an annual export business of €8Bn in 2020. operating in various sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, food processing, logistics and textiles.

The works were part of a three-year project and were completed on schedule.

Tangier – APM Terminals/Maersk-operated Moroccan port complex, MedPort Tangier, has completed the final phase of its 2 million TEU expansion. The project increased total capacity to 5.2 million TEU per annum and the length of the quays to two kilometres. The work was part of a three-year project and was completed on schedule.
“We are ready to hand over the new facilities to Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd when the new network is implemented from February 2025, ” said Keld Pedersen, managing director of APM Terminals West Med . The APM Terminals-operated terminals in Morocco serve as hub ports for Gemini Cooperation, the new operational partnership between Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd covering the East-West trade.
