Guangzhou Shipyard to Build World’s Largest Ro-Pax Ferries

CSSC Offshore & Marine Engineering (Group) Company Limited (COMEC), formerly Guangzhou Shipyard International Company Limited (GSI), is the largest modern integrated shipbuilding enterprise based in Southern China. It was founded in 1954 and is parented by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).  It is engaged in the construction and trading of vessels; manufacturing and trading of steel structure and  mechanical and electrical equipment, container transportation services and ship repair services. It has shipyards in Guangzhou and Foshan in Guangdong Province respectively. Its Chairman is Li Zhushi. Benefited by Chinese central government Eleventh Five-Year Plan and international flourishing shipbuilding market, the company has seen many-fold net profit rise since 2006.

Expected 1,800 passengers, 180 crew members and more than 600 cars

Algiers – Guangzhou Shipyard International Company has signed a contract with Algeria’s state-owned shipping company Entmv to build one of the world’s largest ro-pax ferries. The project has been awarded to Danish company OSK-ShipTech. The project will carry 1,800 passengers, 180 crew members and more than 600 cars. The ferry will sail between Algeria and a number of cities in southern Europe . Gsi and OSK also collaborated on the design of the ferries that were commissioned by Moby and Gnv. “China has a strong focus on the ro-pax ferry market and we are very proud that Guangzhou Shipyard has once again chosen us to build the project. The Entmv ferry is a first in terms of design and operation,” explained Kristian Carøe Lind, technical manager at OSK. The new ro-pax ferry will be 200 metres long, 30 metres wide and have a draft of 6.7 metres.
