The new unit of the Imo II series strengthens Fratelli Cosulich’s strategy in the transition to alternative fuels
Beijing – Two months after the launch of the first unit in the series, a new vessel from the Fratelli Cosulich group has touched water. The Lucia Cosulich has been launched , marking another concrete step in the Marine Energy Unit’s journey toward the adoption of alternative marine fuels and the development of increasingly sustainable bunkering solutions. The ceremony took place at the Taizhou Maple Leaf Shipyard in China , bringing together the project team, partners, and stakeholders to celebrate the ship’s transition from the shipyard to the sea. Making the occasion even more significant was the presence of Lucia Cosulich, the ship’s godmother. In her speech, she expressed gratitude to everyone involved, emphasizing the value of the collaboration that made the project possible and its contribution to the maritime industry’s journey toward net zero.
With the traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Lucia Cosulich was officially launched , thus entering the final stages prior to completion and delivery. The second of four methanol-ready IMO II sister ships, the vessel is part of a broader strategy. Designed from the outset with methanol in mind, she aims to address the energy transition: integrating the use of alternative fuels with the flexibility needed to operate efficiently in today’s market. Key design features include epoxy-phenolic cargo tank linings and systems designed for the future integration of new fuels . These solutions allow the vessel to adapt to evolving regulations and operational needs while maintaining high standards of safety and performance.
Each vessel in this series contributes to strengthening the group’s ability to offer reliable and innovative bunkering solutions. With the launch of the Lucia Cosulich, this vision continues to take shape, consolidating Fratelli Cosulich’s role in the energy transition of the maritime sector.
