Phase 1 concluded, Phase 2 and the Tuas Living Lab are underway: focus on automation and increased capacity
Singapore – PSA International, Singapore’s state-owned port operator, has updated the Port of Tuas’s progress, announcing that 2026 will be a key year for the new hub’s development.
As reported by WorldCargo News, four new berths will be activated this year, including the Tuas Living Lab (Tll), while two more will come online in 2027, further increasing the port’s capacity. Phase 1 of the project, considered the structural foundation of Singapore’s next-generation port, will also be officially completed.
PSA also announced the imminent launch of Phase 2, with the commencement of work on the so-called “Finger 3”; the first berth of this phase is expected to become operational in 2028. A central element of the development is the Tuas Living Lab, which will serve as a real-world testing ecosystem. Trial operations will begin in the second quarter of 2026, with operations scheduled for the fourth quarter. Among the key innovations is the testing of Intelligent Guided Vehicles (IGVs), autonomous horizontal transport vehicles designed to support future Phase 2 operations, which will feature a new parallel yard layout. The first batch of IGVs arrived in January 2026, and further units are expected in the coming months.
To support growth, new facilities are also planned near the Tuas Terminal Gate, including a residence for workers from non-traditional sources and a control center building. According to PSA, 2026 will therefore mark a decisive step in capacity expansion, the acceleration of technological innovation, and the full implementation of next-generation port operations at Tuas.
